Deep Creek Festivals
Throughout the year, the Deep Creek area offers a variety of wonderful festivals for everyone. Many of these festivals have vendors of every kind selling delicious food, beautiful fine art, and many handcrafted items such as jewelry and even furniture. The McHenry Highland Festival brings Scottish traditions to the mountains of Maryland, May 31, 2014. Head to the Garrett County Fairgrounds on Saturday to learn about your history from clan tents and then check out the vendors selling handcrafted Celtic items such as jewelry, pottery, stained glass, handmade wool rugs and cloths, and art prints. Enjoy live entertainment by Bonnie Rideout, Shanty Irish Band, and Sterling Sword Players. A variety of delicious food can be found including Scottish deli items, shortbread, sausages, hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, and fries. Enjoy traditional Scottish dancing, music, and games. Other fun Deep Creek summer activites include the Garrett County Fair and 4th of July Celebration and fireworks at Wisp Resort.
The Deep Creek Lake Art and Wine Festival will keep adults and children entertained September 5-7, 2014. Local restaurants team up with national wineries to pair pre-selected wines for wine and dinner pairings at participating restaurants. On Saturday, from noon to 6pm, the Garrett County Fairgrounds feature over 200 wine tasting samples, over 30 professional artisans, live entertainment, a silent auction, and delicious food and sweet treats. Free activities for the kids include face painting, balloon art, wine bottle painting, carriage rides, and a moon bounce. Tickets for adults 21 and over are $25, which includes the entry fee, wine tasting, and a commemorative wine glass. Children are $5 and are free under the age of five. The Deep Creek Lake Wine and Art Festival benefits the American Red Cross.
The Annual Autumn Glory Festival will be held October 8-12, 2014 in Downtown Oakland Mayland. Garrett County's Autumn Glory Festival was voted the #1 Fall Festival in the World by MSN. Handmade crafts, fine art, glassblowing, a 10-acre corn maze, mountain farmers market, and much more will take place during this event. Parades, pumpkin races, and the Maryland State Banjo, Mandolin and Fiddle championships will be sure to keep everyone entertained. This family friendly event is an excellent way to welcome the fall.
