Historical Locations
Accident
The town of Accident dates back to 1800 and is located on Route 219 about 5 miles North of Deep Creek Lake. The Drane House is the oldest known structure. Kaese's Mill was constructed in 1868 and is located by the Bear Creek-Fish Hatchery Road.
B&O Railroad Station
B&O Railroad Station in Oakland brought prominent citizens to the resort areas of Garrett County in the 1880's. Built in 1884 it is one of the oldest stations in the country.
Casselman River Bridge
Casselman River Bridge was built in 1813. It was the largest single-span stone arch bridge (80 feet) in the 19th Century connecting the nation's first Federal Highway. Picnic area with fireplaces are available. The bridge is located on Route 40 east of Grantsville.
Pennington Cottage
Pennington Cottage at Deer Park was built in 1892. It is a large three story summer cottage with fourteen rooms. The Pennington Cottage is presently the Deer Park Inn, a restaurant and bed & breakfast. The Deer Park Inn is located at 65 Hotel Road in Deer Park.
Penn Alps
Penn Alps was originally called "Little Crossings Inn." It was the original stagecoach stop of the National Road, The "Little Crossings Inn" was built in 1818 and presently houses a restaurant and a large craft market with local artisans.
"Our Fathers House"
"Our Fathers House" was one of the last log churches in use today. It is located on Route 135 on Backbone Mountain near Altamont.
Mountain Lake Park
Mountain Lake Park was a popular resort from 1882 - 1942. In 1912, as many as twenty-eight hotels and boarding houses accommodated thousands of visitors who came to vacation in the cool mountains of Garrett County. President Taft, William Bryan, and Billy Sunday were a few of the renowned visitors. A five thousand seat amphitheater provided musical and dramatic performances.

Deep Creek Lake State Park - Deep Creek Lake State Park offers a multitude of recreational opportunities, including boating, canoeing, picnic areas and for-rent shelters, hiking trails, a lifeguarded beach area in the summer, fishing, and camping. The Meadow Mountain campground offers 112 campsites available spring through fall, and bath house facilities with hot water. The Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center located near the State Park offers an interactive learning experience for all ages covering the various natural aspects of the Deep Creek Lake area including plants, trees, wildlife, and historical information. An entrance fee applies to the main beach and day use areas of Deep Creek Lake State Park. For those launching boats from Deep Creek Lake State Park, a launching fee applies as well. Swallow Falls State Park - Featuring Maryland's highest waterfall at 53 feet, Swallow Falls State Park is a beautiful scenic and wooded area. Hiking trails extend through the State Park, offering ample opportunities to view wildlife and experience western Maryland's rugged and scenic beauty. Swallow Falls State Park offers a picnic area with a pavilion and 65 wooded campsites. Campground facilities include modern bath houses, a fire ring, lantern post, and picnic table. Three sites have electric, water, and sewer. Herrington Manor State Park - Herrington Manor State Park offer recreational opportunities including rowboating, paddle boating, canoeing, picnicking, hiking, tennis, volleyball, fishing, and swimming on a 53 acre lake. Cabins are available for rent year round. Savage River State Forest - the Savage River State Forest features 54,000 acres of mixed hardwood forest, and contains miles of trails for biking, hiking, and cross country skiing. Sailboat Races: Memorial Day
Labor Day; every Saturday, Sunday, and holidays on the southern end of the lake; competition (open to the public) begins at 12 noon on Saturday and 1 PM on Sunday; races are one-design featuring Flying Scots and Lasers.

ASCI's most popular adventure is our signature guided whitewater rafting experience on the our mountaintop river park. The recirculating whitewater course allows for beginners and experts to raft, kayak, canoe, ducky and even river board in a controlled and supervised venue. ASCI Adventures also include guided Rock Climbing, Hiking, Eco-caching, Mountain Biking, and Snowshoeing.
